Dakrong River was selected as a study site under the Highland Aquatic Resources Conservation and Sustainable Development project (HighARCS). With a total area of about 123.2 km2 located in the South West area of Quang Tri Province, Dakrong District, Dakrong River boasts of 38 fish species, 26 genus, 9 families and 5 orders (Nguyen et. al., 2011). Included in the species collection from the water bodies of Dakrong District, Quang Tri Province were 4 species belonging to genus Opsariichthys, 3 of which are new species.
